his Office of Inspector General (OIG) Comprehensive Healthcare Inspection Program report describes the results of a focused evaluation of the care provided at the Veterans Integrated Service Network 22: VA Desert Pacific Healthcare Network in Long Beach, California. This evaluation focused on five key operational areas:
• Leadership and organizational risks
• Quality, safety, and value
• Medical staff credentialing and privileging
• Environment of care
• Mental health (suicide prevention)
The OIG issued two recommendations for improvement in the following topic areas:
1. Quality, safety, and value
• Peer review summary data
2. Medical staff credentialing and privileging
• Credentials files and appointment process for physicians with potentially disqualifying licensure actions
